La Baia di Cartaromana
The marvellous Bay of Cartaromana where we are located has been famed since ancient times for its beautiful harmonious beach, clear waters and unique panorama. From here, you can admire the majestic Aragonese Castle of Ischia Ponte, Vesuvius, the Gulf of Naples, the Amalfi Coast and Capri in the distance.
This bay is also known for its thermal waters that spring directly from the sea, just a few steps from our private beach.
Cartaromana is indeed a unique place in Ischia, a combination of history, mythology and art.
The ancient Romans settled this stretch of water enclosed between the Aragonese Castle, the Guevara Tower and the beach rich in hot springs, and created their first settlement here, the colony of "Aenaria".

Nowadays, this ancient area has been brought back to light thanks to archaeological finds underwater that have allowed the Bay of Cartaromana to be included among the protected marine areas. Since then, its seabed has been explored even more thoroughly, bearing witness to the ancient civilisations that have been present here in the past.
Moreover, Boccaccio in one of his novellas also mentioned the spontaneous hot spring, because the spring has allowed the inhabitants of Ischia Ponte to use its waters for hundreds of years.
The bay is also a mystical place because the fishermen of Ischia Ponte used to go there with their wives about to give birth to invoke the help of Sant'Anna, the patron saint of women in labour, to whom they had also dedicated a small chapel.
This custom is still followed today with the big feast in Mare agli Scogli di Sant'Anna on the 26th of July, which always attracts many people next to the faithful.
